New York State Compliance
At Motira, we recognize our legal and ethical responsibility to ensure the humane treatment of animals across our supply chain. In alignment with New York State Agriculture & Markets Law, Article 26, we require all suppliers to treat animals in a way that protects them from cruelty, neglect, and unnecessary harm.
Pursuant to Section 353 of New York State Law, animals involved in sourcing must be:
- Provided with sufficient and proper food and water
- Sheltered in conditions that offer protection from weather and environmental stressors
- Treated in ways that avoid unjustifiable pain, suffering, or injury
Motira prohibits sourcing from any supplier engaging in practices that violate these basic welfare protections.
Minimum Standards of Humane Care
All suppliers must ensure that animals are:
- Not overdriven, overloaded, tortured, or cruelly treated, whether intentionally or through neglect
- Not deprived of food, water, or adequate shelter (Section 353)
- Not confined without proper ventilation or exposed to extreme temperatures that threaten their health (Section 353‑b)
- Not injured or killed in a way that violates humane or lawful standards
These standards reflect Motira’s commitment to responsible sourcing and compliance with New York State law.
Supplier Requirements
Suppliers are required to:
- Certify in writing that their practices meet or exceed New York State’s animal welfare standards
- Provide clear documentation on the species, country of origin, and conditions under which animals were raised or harvested
- Promptly notify Motira of any changes or incidents that may impact compliance with this policy
Motira also strictly prohibits the use of materials derived from animals involved in illegal trade, mistreatment, or any activity violating CITES or other applicable U.S. and international regulations.
