''Minimal/No Inventory" Policy

Motira makes fewer, better pieces, designed to be worn again and again. With minimal inventory and a just-in-time production approach, Motira embodies its core values:

Our Sustainable Practices
Microstock
At Motira, we adopt a microstock model that prioritizes minimal inventory levels. By keeping our production tightly controlled and avoiding excess inventory, we reduce the risk of overproduction and unnecessary waste. This approach helps minimize our environmental impact and reflects our commitment to sustainable and responsible fashion.
Efficient Resource Management
Traditional inventory practices require large storage spaces and frequent transportation, both of which demand significant energy for heating, cooling, lighting, and logistics. At Motira, our lean inventory model reduces the need for excessive warehousing and transport, thereby lowering overall resource consumption and carbon emissions. This efficient approach supports our commitment to minimizing environmental impact across every stage of our operations.
Premium Quality Leather
Leather is a noble material that demands exceptional quality control at every stage — from sourcing and treatment to selection, cutting, and finishing. At Motira, our limited production approach ensures each piece is crafted to the highest standards. The result is long-lasting, durable products that reflect our commitment to quality, longevity, and sustainable craftsmanship.
Celebrating Craftsmanship
As an artisanal luxury label, Motira embraces a hands-on, detail-driven approach to production. Each piece is crafted with care, allowing skilled artisans to dedicate time and precision to every step — emphasizing quality over quantity. We proudly partner with a heritage workshop that produced our very first leather jacket, and we now work closely with a family-owned manufacturer in Sialkot, Pakistan, where traditional leather and shearling techniques are preserved and celebrated. By supporting their savoir-faire, we help sustain the artistry and heritage of fine leather craftsmanship.

Sourcing and Traceability:

Incidental Material Ethos:

At Motira, we are committed to sourcing leathers and shearlings that are thoughtfully obtained as natural by-products of the agricultural industry. These materials arise incidentally from farming processes, where animals are raised primarily for food—not for their hides. This conscious approach reflects our dedication to ethical and sustainable practices, ensuring that leather use aligns with a broader ecosystem of responsible and regenerative agriculture.

Leather Working Group Certification

All of our leather suppliers are certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG) — a globally recognized organization that promotes environmental stewardship and responsible business practices within the leather industry.

This certification means our suppliers have undergone a thorough assessment of their environmental performance, ensuring compliance with strict sustainability and ethical standards.

By choosing LWG-certified partners, we affirm our commitment to reducing environmental impact and supporting a more responsible, transparent leather supply chain. This provides our customers and stakeholders with confidence that our leather sourcing aligns with high standards of sustainability, traceability, and integrity.

LWG Certified Requirements
Environmental Impact
he Leather Working Group (LWG) certification includes a rigorous assessment of the environmental impact associated with the leather tanning process. This covers key areas such as waste management, energy consumption, water usage, and overall resource efficiency. The certification promotes practices that reduce harm to ecosystems and help conserve natural resources, encouraging a more responsible and sustainable approach to leather production.
Chemical Management
The Leather Working Group (LWG) certification evaluates how chemicals are managed throughout the leather production process. Certified suppliers must comply with strict standards for the use, handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals to ensure minimal environmental impact and protect worker health and safety. This ensures that harmful substances are carefully controlled and that best practices are followed at every stage of production.
Traceability
LWG-certified suppliers are required to ensure traceability across their supply chains, providing clear and verifiable information about the origin of raw materials used in leather production. This transparency helps support ethical sourcing, strengthens accountability, and enables brands to make more informed and responsible decisions.
Compliance with Standards
LWG-certified suppliers are required to adhere to a set of industry-specific standards and best practices that promote environmental responsibility and sustainable leather production. These standards are designed to ensure consistent performance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the supply chain.

Animal Welfare Policy

 New York State Compliance

At Motira, we recognize our legal and ethical responsibility to ensure the humane treatment of animals across our supply chain. In alignment with New York State Agriculture & Markets Law, Article 26, we require all suppliers to treat animals in a way that protects them from cruelty, neglect, and unnecessary harm.

Pursuant to Section 353 of New York State Law, animals involved in sourcing must be:

  • Provided with sufficient and proper food and water
  • Sheltered in conditions that offer protection from weather and environmental stressors
  • Treated in ways that avoid unjustifiable pain, suffering, or injury

Motira prohibits sourcing from any supplier engaging in practices that violate these basic welfare protections.

Minimum Standards of Humane Care

All suppliers must ensure that animals are:

  • Not overdriven, overloaded, tortured, or cruelly treated, whether intentionally or through neglect
  • Not deprived of food, water, or adequate shelter (Section 353)
  • Not confined without proper ventilation or exposed to extreme temperatures that threaten their health (Section 353‑b)
  • Not injured or killed in a way that violates humane or lawful standards

These standards reflect Motira’s commitment to responsible sourcing and compliance with New York State law.

Supplier Requirements

Suppliers are required to:

  • Certify in writing that their practices meet or exceed New York State’s animal welfare standards
  • Provide clear documentation on the species, country of origin, and conditions under which animals were raised or harvested
  • Promptly notify Motira of any changes or incidents that may impact compliance with this policy

L also strictly prohibits the use of materials derived from animals involved in illegal trade, mistreatment, or any activity violating CITES or other applicable U.S. and international regulations.
